RE-STRINGING
Replacing the strings on a guitar is one of those things that needs doing
from time to time, but not everyone has got the time, the tools or the
patience to sit down and do it themselves. I would be delighted to do it
for you. You will usually need to leave the instrument with me for a
short time, and I will supply and fit new strings and tune the guitar to
concert pitch (or any other tuning you like). I will also have a good look
over the guitar and point out any areas which might require some
maintenance in the future.
Guitar strings have a
limited playing life, and they begin to deteriorate slowly from the day
they are fitted, rather like the tyres on a car. It is therefore a good
idea to replace all the strings at the same time, and in most cases this
is what I recommend.
However if you have broken a string and would just
like the one replacing, that's no problem. I can sometimes do it while you
wait. |

SETTING-UP
You can't beat the feeling of
playing a perfectly set up instrument. Once a guitar has been
professionally adjusted and tweaked it will feel, sound and perform
infinitely better. The action will be right, the pickups will do what they
are supposed to do, it will stay in tune better, leaving you nothing to
worry about other than playing music. Most electric guitars will need a
thorough set up at least twice a year. And the best bit is . . . it pays
for itself! If a guitar is kept in top-notch playable condition it will
hold its value much better.
RUNNING
REPAIRS
You've got a gig tomorrow night and your volume pot has just started
making a crackling noise. If you just need a quick pit-stop repair,
give me a call. Being a gigging guitarist myself I know what it is like,
and I will always try and fit you in.

ELECTRICAL REPAIRS
I am more than happy to undertake
any electrical repair from a simple re-soldering job to a full re-wire.
PICKUP REPLACEMENT
This is one of the most frequent
requests I get, and is also the biggest potential minefield for
guitarists. In short, I am delighted to replace the pickups in any guitar,
but will need to consult with you before you spend your hard earned cash.
Check out the F.A.Q. link for a more detailed overview of pickup replacement.

TIME SCALE
Most repairs are turned around
within a couple of days. You are welcome to drop in to Stratford Music
Shop any time during opening hours.
Ideally give me a call before you set out so that I can arrange to be
available to check out your instrument properly. If a job is particularly
time consuming (I recently had to restring a 30-string bowed psaltry) I
will do my best to give you an accurate
estimate.
